Getting (Food) Poisoned with Your Family

Updated: Jun 2, 2020

Yes, you read that correctly. Food poisoning. Three out of my four family members (including myself) got food poisoning on our fourth day that we had originally filled with London activities. On the night of our third day, my mom, dad, and I all were unfortunate enough to wake up to the sickening quake of our stomachs rejecting dinner.

To simplify a very long and disgusting experience, the three of us slept very little that night. Therefore, we all slept in until 1pm. Because I do not have a stomach of steel, and neither does my mom, we both stayed in for the rest of the afternoon to rest, trying to avoid watching anything on television that would induce queasiness. I'm still not completely sure if my dad actually felt good enough to roam around the city, but he did so anyway with my brother, who somehow avoided the sickness altogether.

Basically, I got a lot more naps in while the two guys checked out the Imperial War Museum. Once I woke up again around 6 o'clock in the evening, my mom and I firmly decided, we're in London, we can't stay in here all day. We have to go out. So, we anticipated meeting my brother and dad out by Westminster Abbey, a short walk from our hotel. This was a mistake for us. I felt as though I had truly never smelt a city until that moment in my life. Whilst still feeling ill, my sense of smell seemed heightened and every walk down the city street made me want to sit and not get up. Quite honestly, London really doesn't have many "city smells" like in NYC, but at this point, we were suffering.

We ditched my brother and dad, heading back to the hotel. I did manage to get a couple pictures as the sun set, but other than that, a day was gone. We both still felt too bad to eat a full dinner. God bless the creator of microwaveable rice.
