I've had my last Blue Ridge sunset of my summer and now as I sit in the bustling airport, my journey to London is beginning! I won't be back to my safe, little Boonetown until after I've adventured around the UK; insane to think that I will be there by tomorrow morning. Iced coffee in hand, camera charged and dry shampoo available, I feel (mildly) confident about embarking on this trek. Despite being in a rather empty part of the small Maryland airport, with strange elevator music echoing around the terminals (vaguely 90's with a hint of attempted jazzy melody), I know that once our short flight lands in the ever-busy JFK International, my anticipation for London will reach exponential heights.
I'm hopeful to sleep the seven and a half hour flight away and anxiously awaiting to see what will be in store for me on this journey. I've never been by myself, with practical strangers, before while overseas. Anxious, but excited. Anxious-excited. I determined that I'm going to see just how many bags of those magical pretzels I can swipe from my two flights while simultaneously finishing another book before I start delving into the famous works of the man of the hour: my homeboy Shakespeare. Well, we aren't close yet but we sure will be soon! Especially when I get to see where a little wobbling baby William use to roam in Stafford!
I'll be well acquainted with London before the rest of my peers and professor arrive, but there are still so many things I'm looking forward to during that duration of my stay. I get two different trips! I feel so much gratitude for this opportunity. Sometimes I have to remind myself that it's genuinely happening. Maybe it'll actually feel real once I get my first glimpse of Big Ben. I'll keep ya posted.
